Hanwell Town 3-1 Bedfont Sports
3 points on our new pitch
HANWELL TOWN (1) 2 v BEDFONT SPORTS (0) 1
THE BOSTIK LEAGUE SOUTH CENTRAL
SATURDAY 18TH AUGUST 2018
Meeting local rivals Bedfont Sports who were playing their first ever game as a Level Four club, we maintained our winning start to the new season with a 3-1 win that saw us top the table albeit only on goal difference.
This was the first game played on the pitch since all of the drainage work and irrigation was carried out during the close season so it was a perfect playing surface for both sides and this was immmediately reflected in the neat passing football by both sides in the opening ten minutes. Our side showed just one change from that which had beaten Egham Town the previous week with Glen Yala coming in to replace the unavailable Immed Kartita and Glen made an early impression when his clever chip to the far post saw Gareth Chendlik climb highest to head the ball into the Bedfont net.At the other end, a corner kick by Jack Mills was headed just wide by Hamilton Bunga. Bedfont were enjoying a lot of possession but all of the goalscoring chances were falling to us at the other end and both Ibrahim Olutade and Chendlik missed good opportunities but the best two chances fell to Louis Bircham who twice in quick succession shot over the bar from close range with only Rouke Pickford in the Bedfont goal to beat.
Hlf time arrived with us leading by just one goal.At the interval we made our first substitution with Jack Waldren replacing Haluna Masembe. We scored our second goal in the opening minutes of the second half. Firstly Pickford made an excellent save to deny Glen after Louis's cross had found him unmarked at the far post but from the resultant corner kick by Louis, Andy O'Brien headed home at the far post. We went three up in rather surprising circumstances when Pickford coming off his line completely misread the bounce of the ball after a long clearance forward by Kieron Cathline and it sailed over his head. Ibrahim Olutade was then right through on goal and the keeper had little choice but to pull him down. A penalty was awarded and a yellow card issued. Gareth made no mistake from the spot.
With the game now over as a virtual contest we were able to make two further substitution, Myles Stephenson replacing Ibrahim and Charlie Barton replacing Glen Yala. With just four minutes remaining, Jack Mills who was by far Bedfont's best player on the day got some reward for all his efforts as his fierec shot from close range found the back of our net despite Aaron Bufton getting his hand to the ball.
