Hanwell Town 0 Marlow 6
Hit for six
After three games unbeaten this result was a great disappointment for Town, with the visitors moving up to second place in the table with this convincing victory. The first half hour had seen Marlow ahead on possession and territory but not showing too many signs of things to come. In fact the first noteworthy incident did not come until the fifteenth minute when Will Wambeek did well to clear a threatening Charlie Daniels cross over the Hanwell bar. From the ensuing corner the visitors had three efforts on goal but Jack Waldren, Olly Duffy and Will got in timely blocks. A minute later it was Dwayne Duncan who was required to intercept a dangerous ball into the box from the lively Devontae Romeo.
Hanwell were finding it hard to create any chances but three corners in quick succession saw Calum Duffy going close with a header being cleared off the line from the third. As the half hour mark approached Marlow went ahead in a disappointing fashion for the home side. A Town free kick was grabbed by ‘keeper Simon Grant and launched up-field towards Romeo. Will got a foot to the ball but the Marlow wide man seized possession and crossed to fast-arriving James Clark who made no mistake. Eight minutes later Romeo scored himself after Calum had blocked the ball on the line.
As half time approached Hanwell had two half chances to reduce the arrears. The first saw Will finding Kieron Cathline on the right from whence his shot from an angle was parried for a corner. The second saw Dwayne Duncan only getting a glancing header towards the goal from the ensuing Jack Waldren corner.
The second half came to life in the fifty-third minute when Isaac Olurunfemi dribbled in from the right and put the ball on a proverbial plate for James Clark to make it three-nil to the visitors. Three minutes later Town had a glorious chance to pull a goal back when Will Wambeek put Harry Rush clear. Harry spotted Grant rushing off his line and attempted to flick the bouncing ball over his head but, alas for Hanwell, the ‘keeper was able to reach up and grab the ball.
Around the hour mark the Town management made two substitutions but it was the visitors who were the next to score. Keiron pulled back Kamaron English in the box and Clark completed his hat-trick from the spot. Three minutes later Marlow notched a fifth when Chris Ovenden headed in English’s free kick. With twenty minutes to go Hanwell twice went close to reducing the arrears, but Gareth Chendlik’s shot was blocked and Jack’s follow-up saved by Grant. The scoring was completed in the seventy-fourth minute when substitute Isaac Oli-Tutu’s low cross was driven into the net by Adam Richards. With ninety minutes on the score-board Aaron made the save of the day to deny Oli-Tutu and restrict the damage to six! Town now face the daunting prospect of playing the next two games against in-form teams in the top eight in the table. Supporters and management will be hoping for better things.
